I even went to France for a year, just to avoid him.īut I’m done hiding from him now, and there’s no way in hell I’ll allow him to ruin my senior year. His pranks and rumors got more sadistic as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I’ve been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. He would never refer to me so informally, if he referred to me at all. ![]() ![]() And something that I had somehow forgotten came through clearly, Felix's strength. Despair, pain, loss, utter love and awe are all heard, and felt. Finally, the melancholy tone that runs through the book is heard deep down in the vocal chords, but they don't cover up the endless, yet waning, hope that keeps you linked to each word. Not only am I told that his pulse is racing, but I can hear it in the narrators breath. ![]() Further into the story there is perfection when Felix's innocence and timidity need to come through. And most importantly he conveys the brilliance of the writing. He doesn't swoop and soar, but instead carries the audience along on the wings that this story is built upon. He has an airy, lofty cadence that imparts the feeling of lift and flight. ![]() First and foremost the quality of Matthew Lloyd Davies’ voice is ideal. As is one of my favourite hobbies, Corie J Weaver has allowed me to interrogate her about writing, young adult fiction, fantasy, and more. Thanks to the author I was able to review Coyote’s Daughter and loved it. You can follow Corie, along with her work, at her website on Facebook, and Twitter. She has a background in medieval history, is a traveller, and resides in New Mexico with her husband and their four pets. From voracious reader to published writer, Corie J. ![]() ![]() ![]() The events related in the book appear so far-fetched, however, that most of those who have read it, says Ekirch, "have tended to dismiss it as merely a sentimental fiction, written during an age when overblown stories of impossible adventures were a popular literary genre".īut then the historian happened across an obscure diary by an 18th-century Somerset rector that cited, as the event that had most marked the year 1743, a trial in which a young claimant who had returned unexpectedly from abroad sued his uncle for a lost inheritance. The principal source of information on Annesley was a fanciful if much-reprinted volume from 1743, Memoirs of an Unfortunate Young Nobleman ("Return'd," the title continues in classic 18th-century plot-spoiling style, "from Thirteen years Slavery in America, where he had been sent by a Wicked Contrivance of his Cruel Uncle A Story founded on Truth, and address'd equally to the Head and Heart"). ![]() That was certainly my take, for a long time."Įkirch and his fellows could be forgiven. "People were just not inclined to believe it. "I think one reason why there's been so little recent interest in the Annesley saga is that many modern historians and literary critics simply have not considered it to be true," says Roger Ekirch, an award-winning American historian whose impeccably researched yet rip-roaring rendering of Annesley's life, Birthright, is published this month. ![]() ![]() ![]() Everything you'd expect from the directors is present and there's enough zany humor to make this one worth seeing despite its flaws. I even if at times the film's material lacks, the cast do affine job to elevate this film into very humorous moments that works throughout. Although not the greatest comedy, there are enough effective elements to make this one a memorable flick to watch. The film manages to be good enough to be a worthwhile comedy to watch, and if you're looking for a pleasant time waster, then give this one a shot. I, on the other hand, never did enjoy Devitto's work, but I like him here, and he is pretty funny in his part. ![]() Bette Midler is very good here, and she makes the film worth seeing. However this is a good little comedy that was directed by the guys who made Airplane! However this isn't their best work. I enjoyed the film, but it did lack in some areas, and it could have been a bit better. Ruthless People is a fun, entertaining comedy film that has good gags going for it. ![]() |
